THE BEST APPLE BUTTER RECIPE
SEARCHING FOR THE BEST APPLE BUTTER RECIPE OUT THERE? LOOK NO FURTHER, BECAUSE WE’RE MAKING JARS FILLED WITH AN
EXCEPTIONALLY FLAVOURED SPREAD – YUM!
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by the Ontario Apple Growers. You can follow the OAG on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram or head HERE visit their website!
Carol and I were super excited to receive a call from the Ontario Apple Growers inviting us to join them for a tour of local apple orchards. “Does an apple a day keep the doctor away?” we thought. “You bet!” And so off we went.
Our day in apple country found us in the company of some like-minded foodies, good people all around. We learned about how apple trees are planted, when they bloom, how apples are picked and how they get from the orchard to us. Special thanks to our friends at Wilmot Orchards and Algoma Orchards who shared their knowledge and passion for this most beloved fruit.
For me, there were two key takeaways, the first being that I live in an area that grows some seriously awesome fruit.
Second key takeaway was to make something fabulous with these apples. I was practically giddy from their heady fragrance when I heard a little voice (swear) say, “Apple Butter! Show people how to make apple butter, Nik!” Well, I grabbed Carol and three bags of apples and hit the road. I had a plan!
Before listing key considerations on making THE BEST APPLE BUTTER RECIPE EVER, I wanted to remind you to click HERE for a refresher on HOME CANNING. If you've you’ve never canned before, this is an excellent recipe to try your hand at, as is our GARLIC DILL PICKLES and our ANTIPASTO SAUCE.
I’d also like to mention my overall goal of making a traditional apple butter with little waste. Since this is an unpeeled apple butter recipe, expect tons of flavour. I used two different varieties and again, head HERE to see a chart that may assist you in picking the perfect apples for your recipe.
Let’s do this, friends! We’re making the BEST APPLE BUTTER RECIPE ever and here’s how we do it.
Gala apples get top marks for their sweet flavour and fine texture. They’re also very aromatic and work especially well when cooked for sauces and recipes such as this.
These relative newcomers to the apple party (the variety was discovered recently on a farm in B.C.!) are firm-textured. They have a distinctive cream-coloured flesh and are sweet and juicy. They cook down nicely in this recipe and they’re equally as good enjoyed raw – they have some bite!
I found the following measurements useful when I went to figure out the quantities of sugar and spices. I purposely reduced the sugar for this recipe by almost half because the AMBROSIAS were so sweet. A sugar-reduced recipe is always preferred. You can halve this recipe and still have the same tasty results, although I’d purée the apple butter and check its consistency at the 1½ hour mark.
1 medium-sized apple = about 1 cup
1 pound of apples = about 3 cups
16 pounds of apples = about 48 cups
This recipe yields 30 x 250ml jars of apple butter
Although I could have attempted this recipe using a slow cooker, I opted for the more traditional method of making apple butter on the stovetop. I like participating in the cooking process – stirring this traditional apple butter recipe every 15 minutes as it cooks is important. Not only does it prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot, it also causes the gentle evaporation of liquid, which creates a very fragrant cottage or home.
Another thing to mention on the cooking front is just the concept of apple butter vs. applesauce. Although do love applesauce, I find the rich, flavourful taste of apple butter to be way more enjoyable and memorable. This happens when you cook apples slowly in this way.
What to do once you’ve made it... fill your jars, process them, finished them with paper caps and string and Give them away to the important people in your life. They’ll love you and the apple butter and all will be perfect in your world – true story, guaranteed.
I’ve presented my three favourite ways of enjoying apple butter in the video, but in case you missed it, try dipping veggies into it or serving it on fancy crackers with cheddar, apple slices and freshly cracked black pepper. My ultimate favourite is a toasted English muffin smeared with peanut butter then a swipe of apple butter – amazing!
Pick your favourite apples because it’s time to make THE BEST APPLE BUTTER RECIPE!

Crockpot Apple Butter Recipe
Slow cooker Apple Butter Recipe.
With pre-winter going all out, you may have seen natural product spreads showing up at your neighborhood agriculturists advertise. Have you attempted them some time recently? They are a delightful spread to plunge foods grown from the ground in or slather onto toast. What's more, one of my most loved sorts of natural product spreads — particularly this season — is slow cooker creamy fruit spread produced using nourishment rich apples.
Creamy fruit spread versus Apple Jam: What Is the Difference?.
Presently, you may mistake creamy fruit spread for stick, however they aren't the same. It couldn't be any more obvious, jams are produced using pulverized or hacked organic product that are joined with sugar, pectin to thicken the blend and now and then lemon juice. It's all puréed together to dispose of any pieces of organic product.
Organic product spreads consolidate the whole natural product, including the peel, with flavors and sugar. Since there is no pectin, the natural product takes more time to cook down. Be that as it may, the additional measure of time really attempts to your advantage; it's what puts the margarine in creamy fruit spread, as it turns out to be super spreadable. Yum!.
Why Use a Crockpot?.
That is the reason the stewing pot proves to be useful for this Crockpot Apple Butter formula. Rather than remaining cautious over a pot on the stove, you can include every one of the fixings into the stewing pot and go. What's more, believe me, the odor that will originate from your slow cooker is superior to anything any scented light you could consume!.
Key Ingredients of a Great Apple Butter.
So what influences an awesome custom made apple to margarine? Like most formulas with couple of fixings, the nature of apple is vital here. Whenever possible, pick neighborhood, natural assortments. Creamy fruit spread doesn't require much else; you likely have everything in the wash room as of now!.
One of the underrated parts of creamy fruit spread is the way that it utilizes cinnamon and apple juice vinegar, two fixings that accompany a huge amount of advantages.
The medical advantages of cinnamon are noteworthy. The zest is stuffed with cell reinforcements, which help lessen free radical harm and can back off maturing. Cinnamon likewise contains capable mitigating impacts, ensures heart wellbeing and battles diseases and infections. As meager as 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon can truly have any kind of effect in your body.
Apple juice vinegar is another common fixing that is helpful to our bodies. Whenever ingested, apple juice vinegar detoxes your body by adjusting pH levels, empowering the cardiovascular framework, inside portability and lymphatic seepage. It's likewise a compelling treatment for indigestion and acid reflux while slaughtering off overabundance yeast.
That implies this creamy fruit spread isn't simply delectable, it's extraordinary for your body, as well.
The most effective method to Make Apple Butter.
It's a great opportunity to get this stewing pot creamy fruit spread going!.
Begin by including every one of the fixings into the slow cooker and let the creamy fruit spread formula cook for the following six hours.
Once the simmering pot creamy fruit spread is prepared, utilize a cheddar or nut drain pack. Include the natively constructed creamy fruit spread blend over a medium blending dish. Strain the fluids from the solids.
At that point utilize a drenching blender to mix the apples. At that point do a trial. Add a little maple sugar to sweeten to your preferring. At that point store the creamy fruit spread formula in an artisan jolt.
This stewing pot creamy fruit spread will keep for up to three months in the cooler, however I question it will keep going that long!.

How to Make DELICIOUS Apple Cinnamon Flat Cakes
Anna bakes these delicious Apple Cinnamon Galettes which are perfect for sharing. Click on SHOW MORE for recipe instructions.
Two-Crust Pie Dough
2 ¼ cup cake and pastry flour
2 Tbsp sugar
¾ tsp salt
1 cup cold, unsalted butter, cut into pieces
6 Tbsp cold water
1 Tbsp lemon juice or white vinegar
Apple Cinnamon Galettes
½ cup sour cream
2 Tbsp + 1/2 cup dark brown sugar or demerara sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract
4 cup peeled and thinly sliced Granny Smith, Cortland, or other tart apple (about 3 apples)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
6 tsp unsalted butter
1 egg, whisked with 2 tbsp water, for brushing
Turbinado sugar, for sprinkling
Two-Crust Pie Dough
1. Stir the flour, sugar and salt to combine in a bowl or using a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Cut in the butter by hand with a pastry cutter or on low speed until just small pieces of butter are visible and the mixture as a whole just begins to take on a pale yellow colour (indicating that the butter has been worked in sufficiently).
2. Stir the water and lemon juice together and add this to the dough all at once, mixing until the dough just comes together. Shape the dough into 2 discs, wrap and chill for at least 2 hours before rolling. Alternatively, the dough can be frozen for up to 3 months and thawed in the fridge before rolling.
3. Shape into 2 logs and chill.
Apple Cinnamon Galettes
1. Preheat the oven to 375 F and line 2 baking trays with parchment paper. Pull the pie dough from the fridge 20 minutes before rolling.
2. Slice each log into 3 pieces and roll each piece out on a lightly floured work surface to just under ¼-inch thickness and 8-inches across. Place 3 onto each baking tray and chill while preparing the filling.
3. Stir the sour cream, 2 Tbsp of brown sugar and vanilla together. In another bowl, toss the apples, remaining ½ cup of brown sugar and cinnamon together.
4. Spoon the sour cream into the centre of each rolled piece of dough and top with the sliced apples. Place a teaspoon of butter on the top of each tart. Fold the dough over the apples, making 5 or 6 creases overlapping each other so that the apples are almost fully covered. Brush the pastry with the eggwash and sprinkle generously with granulated sugar.
5. Bake the galettes for about 25 minutes, until the pastry is a rich golden brown colour. Let the galettes cool for at least 20 minutes before serving warm, or cool completely and serve at room temperature.
6. The galettes should be served warm or at room temperature, but can be stored chilled for up to 3 days.

What's For Breakfast? Apple Butter Pecan Crescents: Noreen's Kitchen
Greetings! This morning I had to get Molly to school at 5:30 am! She is going on a 3 day field trip to the Mountains of North Carolina. Along the way they are going to take a tour of Barton College and go to the North Carolina Zoo among other things. They are also going to hike to the top of Grandfather Mountain where they will be forced to abandon all electronics and sit in silence and reflect on their experience and write about it in their journal. I think it sounds like great, memory making fun! I am also sad because I don't do well when my children are away from home. She is going far away where I will not be able to keep her safe. So I needed to occupy myself this morning and not think about it.
I needed to cook something. Taking note of what I had available to me in the house, I decided on these apple butter pecan crescents.
Using a tube of crescent rolls that I separated, I spread about a half tablespoon of apple butter on each one and sprinkled with chopped pecans. I rolled them all up and baked them in a 375 oven for about 12 minutes or just until they turned light golden brown. I removed them from the oven and allowed them to cool for about 10 minutes. Then I put them on a rack so I could glaze them.
I used my basic icing glaze using some powdered sugar, heavy cream about a tablespoon of soft butter, teaspoon of vanilla and about 1/2 teaspoon of apple pie spice, which gave it a nutty brown color.
After the crescents had a bit of time to cool I glazed them while they were just still a bit warm. The glaze melted over them nicely and I sprinkled a bit more chopped pecans over the tops.
These are stellar! Delicious and satisfying. Just a little sweet and buttery. The nuts add the perfect extra special flavor. These were quick to go together and were simple to make. They would be a great addition to a buffet or even to take to a pot luck or luncheon. Pack these in a basket lined with a pretty napkin and these make a great gift for the neighbors!
I hope you try them and I hope you love them!
