How to make Dutch Apple Pancakes and Dutch Hot Chocolate
Dutch pancakes are world famous and Dutch hot chocolate is something that all of us crave for. Take a look at this episode of Nick Saraf's FoodLog, were he makes delicious Dutch pancakes and hot Dutch chocolate in his very own style!
Ingredients:
Dutch Pancakes
250g Flour
500 ml milk
Salt
Baking Powder
1tbsp Butter
2 Eggs
Sliced Apple
Bacon Sliced
Cheese
Maple Syrup
Method:
Dutch Pancakes
Peel, core and slice the apples in D shaped slices. Put chopped bacon in a frying pan on a medium to high flame. Let them cook in their own fat. Once the bacon is 3 quarters cooked take them out and cook the sliced apple in the same bacon fat. Let the apples also be cooked only 3 quarters.
For making the batter, take a big bowl and in it break open two eggs, add castor sugar and whisk it. Add butter, sifted flour, baking powder (opt), salt, and milk to the mixture and whisk it to combine the whole batter. On a low flame, pour the batter enough to make a thin pancake, now add the cooked bacon and apple on the pancake and let it cook for a while till the pancake can move freely on the pan, once cooked on one side, flip the pancake and let it cook for a some while. Take it off the pan and your pancake is ready. Garnish it with Maple syrup.
Ingredients:
Hot Chocolate
Dark Chocolate and Milk
Whipped Cream
Cinnamon
Method:
Hot Chocolate
Take a good amount of dark chocolate and keep it to melt in a double boiler, when the chocolate is liquidy add same amount of milk to it, add some salt to enhance the taste. Once the whole mixture is nicely mixed, serve it in a glass. Pipe whipped cream on top of the hot chocolate and sprinkle cinnamon powder on it. Your hot chocolate is ready.

Fabulous SWISS APPLE PANCAKE recipe!
#weekendatthecottage #easydeliciousrecipes #applepancakes
This lovely dish is a perennial favourite amongst kids and adults alike.
Prepare this SWISS APPLE PANCAKE recipe and start a new breakfast tradition.
Something special happens when you serve a SWISS APPLE PANCAKE: it always gets “oohs” and “aahs” when first delivered to the table, then things get super quiet as everyone takes those first few bites, enjoying the spiced apple flavour, crispy edges and soft, custard-like centre. Truly amazing!
Here’s what I’ve learned over the years.
APPLES – Crisp, tangy apples work best for this recipe and if I had my pick, I’d go with McIntosh or Honeycrisp. Using a firm, crunchy apple helps prevent them from getting mushy when first added to the melted butter.
BUTTER, SUGAR & SPICES – I love the process of this “hot skillet” recipe where we toss butter into a hot pan, followed by the apples and spices. I also like the way the aromas of this fabulous breakfast instantly fill the kitchen when the pan is returned to the oven to get the apples hot and sizzling.
THE BATTER – The batter for this recipe is easy to prepare, yet I’ve noticed a difference in the finished pancake depending on the eggs I use. For best results, I suggest using organic, free-range eggs purchased from a trusted poultry farm. I also like to make the batter 15 minutes before I begin cooking the pancake, giving the ingredients a chance to come together, then I whisk the batter vigorously before adding it to the pan.
ADD-INS – I started adding sliced almonds to this recipe, their nutty flavour goes well with the apples. Additional things I’ve added and enjoyed are raisins, lemon zest, pears and peaches.
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE – Make sure you’re ready to serve this treat moments after you take it out of the oven. Call everyone to the table five minutes before the pancake is done. Place a trivet and pan-friendly serving piece next to your place setting, then get the skillet to the table “tout de suite”, before the pancake deflates!
SERVING – There’s something so charming and homespun about serving this dish right from the skillet. Finishing touches are simple – a sprinkle of icing sugar and maple syrup will be all you need. Well, you could also serve some fabulous breakfast sausages or thick cut peppered bacon… just saying!

Join us as Katie, Devin, and I (Nicole) prepare one of our favorite weekend and special occasion breakfasts--a classic Dutch Apple Pancake. Evie joins us after all is made and complete! During this video, you can see how I peel, core, and slice apples pretty much the same as sighted people, with the exception of some safety techniques such as curving my fingers to avoid cutting the tips of them, but also to use as a guide for each slice I make on the apple. I feel the cutting board with my hands to make sure I've not missed any apple slices when moving them to the bowl. If you have a recipe similar to ours, tell us in the comments below! And, if you try this recipe as something new, let us know if you love it as much as we do!
Here are the details of the recipe.
Dutch Apple Pancake
Ingredients:
5 medium Granny Smith apples
4 Tablespoons butter
Batter:
5 large eggs
3/4 Cup flour
3/4 Cup Milk
Topping:
4 Tablespoons butter
1/2 Cup sugar
2 Tablespoons cinnamon
Preheat oven to 500 degrees F.
Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. Melt 4 Tablespoons butter in large 500 degree F tolerant skillet (we use cast iron). Sauté sliced apples until tender. While apples are cooking, beat eggs, then add milk and flour. Continue whisking until smooth. Pour over sautéed tender apples. Move to oven. Bake 20 minutes at 500 degrees F. While baking, melt 4 Tablespoons butter and make cinnamon-sugar mixture. When 20 minutes are done, pour butter over pancake and top with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Return to oven for 5 minutes at 500 degrees F to caramelize cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Let cool to safe eating temp, serve, and enjoy!

Transcript:
Hello and welcome back to In the Kitchen with Matt, I am your host Matt Taylor. Today I am going to show you how to make German Pancakes; breakfasts are one of my favorite things to make, and German Pancakes are actually one of the first things I learned how to make when I was a young lad, learning to cook. The do go by other names, Dutch Babies, and then the Finnish Pancake as well, whatever you call them, super easy to do, really yummy, let’s get started. First let’s preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Now I am going to start with 6 eggs and put them in a large bowl, and then to that, I am going to add one cup of milk, you can use 1 percent, 2 percent, whole milk. And then I am going to come in here and give this a good whisk. And you can do this in a blender if you like as well. And then to this we will add one cup of flour, 1 half tsp. of salt, and that is it for the batter, if you want this a little more sweet, add like a Tbsp. of sugar, and 1 tsp. of vanilla extract. This is the basic recipe. Let’s go ahead and mix this together. All right when you are done it will be nice and runny like that. And now what we do is we take a 13x9 baking dish, and we take 2 tablespoons of butter, and we are going to go ahead and put that right in there, and then we are going to put this in the oven and let the butter melt completely, and then we will take it out, the pan will be hot, and then we will add our batter right in there. All right and then after about a minute or so, we will take our pan out, make sure you use a hot mitt, and make sure the butter gets moved around there a bit, and then we are going to take our batter, and pour it right in the middle, we will go ahead and put this back in the oven, and we will bake it for 20 minutes to 22 minutes, until the sides come up, the batter is going to go up the sides, and get golden brown, it is going to look really cool. All right the timer is done, all right. And then we take them out. They will look like that, really cool. Look at the golden brown on the edges, and then you just top them off, however you like, with powdered sugar, syrup, whipped cream, fruit, whatever you like to do, and you will see it is going to start to go back down, fall back down, and that is totally okay, super natural. All right our German Pancakes are done, turned out amazing, pretty easy to do, if I can do it, you can do it. I am Matt Taylor; this has been another episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, thank you for joining me, as always if you have any questions or comments, put them down below and I will get back to you as soon as I can, thumbs up, down in the corner, push it, don’t forget to subscribe to my channel, and watch my other videos, take care. Time for me to dive into this, oh yeah, grab my fork, oh yeah.

Crispy Cast Iron Pancake Recipe - Martha Stewart
Dutch Baby Pancakes (apples and strawberry) Perfect for Weekend Brunch!
Hello Everyone!
Sharing you guys one of my favorite Breakfast/Brunch Pancakes recipe. You’ll never wanna have any other pancakes after you try these lol
If you know me and follow me on my instagram or Facebook you’ll know that I make these pancakes almost every weekend. This is actually my daughter Abby and I favorite. We cannot decide which one we like that is why I always end up making both Apples and Strawberry.
If you want to make just the Apple or just the strawberry you can just cut the batter recipe in half. You can also use other fruits like banana, blueberry etc. if you want to cook any fruits add it same time you add the batter otherwise use fresh fruits and add it after the pancakes are cooked like I did with fresh Strawberry.
The secret to for making your pancakes puff is making sure all the ingredients are at room temperature or the batter is at room temperature and the pan needs to be really hot! You can also make the batter a day before and refrigerate but make sure to take it out of the fridge an hour or two before baking.
Use any heavy bottom pan you have but cast iron is the best way in my opinion.
Thank you guys for watching! Xoxo

Buy my new mini-cookbook All Things Chocolate here on Etsy:
Or buy the kindle version here on Amazon:
In this episode of In the Kitchen with Matt I will show you how to make Dutch Babies also known as German Pancakes. This recipe for dutch baby pancakes is really easy to make. A Dutch baby pancake or German pancake is a large American popover. It is fairly similar to a large Yorkshire pudding. They contain no leavening agents unlike classic American pancakes. But they are commonly served with the same toppings as you would use for pancakes and waffles. The idea of a Dutch baby pancake may have been derived from the German Pfannkuchen, but the current form originated in Pennsylvania in the early 1900s. (take from wikipedia). If I can do it you can do it, let's get started! :)

Apple Turnovers with Cinnamon | Puff Pastry with Apple Pie filling
Are you wondering How to make Apple Turnovers with Puff Pastry? These Apple Turnovers with Cinnamon taste like an Apple Pie. I used for the filling the same ingredients as what I do when making an Apple Pie. For this recipe I have used Granny Smith apples, cinnamon, sugar, jam, and raisons. By shortly frying the apples you make them soft. I am adding a bit of flour to make the filling a bit thicker, this avoids your turnovers to become soggy at the bottom. Enjoy these delicious Apple hand pies!

Pancake Recipe
Serves 6 (Makes 12 medium pancakes)
Prep Time: Under 10 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes per batch
Ingredients
¾ cup (110 g) whole wheat flour
¾ cup (75 g) regular or quick-cooking rolled oats
1½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
Pinch of ground cinnamon
1¼ cups (310 mL) kefir
1 large egg (see note)
2 Tbsp (30 mL) pure maple syrup, plus extra for serving
2 Tbsp (30 g) butter, melted
Yoghurt & fruit, for serving
Directions
1. Stir the flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon together in a large bowl. Add the kefir, egg, maple syrup and melted butter and whisk until combined (a few lumps are OK). Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
2. Preheat the oven to 300°F/150°C. Heat a griddle or large non-stick skillet over medium heat and grease lightly with butter (or oil).
3. Drop spoonfuls (roughly ¼ cup/60 mL) of batter onto the griddle and cook until the surface of the pancakes dulls and the bottom is golden brown, about 3 minutes. Flip the pancakes and cook until the other side browns lightly, about 2 minutes. Transfer the pancakes to a serving platter or a plate and place them, uncovered, in the oven to keep warm. Cook the remaining batter.
4. Serve the pancakes with warm maple syrup and a dollop of yoghurt with fresh fruit.
Note
To make these pancakes egg-free and add extra fibre, stir 2 Tbsp (16 g) ground flaxseed into 3 Tbsp (45 mL) water and let the mixture sit for 2 minutes. Add it with the kefir, maple syrup and butter (or oil) instead of the egg.

Dutch Baby Recipe
Serves 4 to 6 (Makes 1 large soufflé pancake)
Prep Time: Under 10 minutes
Cook Time: 18 minutes
Ingredients
¼ cup (35 g) all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp (25 g) granulated sugar
1 tsp finely grated orange zest
Pinch of fine salt
⅔ cup (160 mL) half-and-half cream
3 large eggs
¼ tsp vanilla extract
2 Tbsp (30 mL) melted butter
Icing sugar, pure maple syrup, yoghurt and/or fresh berries or fruit compote, for serving
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a 9-inch (23 cm) skillet or other cast-iron pan in the oven to heat while you prepare the batter.
2. Whisk the flour, sugar, orange zest and salt in a bowl. Add the cream, eggs and vanilla and whisk well. Whisk in the melted butter right before you bake the pancake.
3. Remove the preheated pan from the oven and brush it with melted butter. Pour in the batter and immediately return the pan to the oven. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until the batter rises and inflates and the peaks begin to brown.
4. Remove the pancake from the oven and serve immediately, lightly dusted with icing sugar, before the soufflé begins to fall. Serve with maple syrup, berries or compote on the side.
