Easy Apple Crumb Cake | How to Make Apple Cake
Get the flavor of a classic apple pie with less than half of the effort! This apple cake features 3 delicious layers: soft vanilla cake on the bottom, tart apples in the center, and a crunchy crumble on top! And even better, the crumble uses the same base ingredients as the cake!
Check out this recipe at
See more recipes on
Ingredients:
For the dry ingredients:
2 & 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
For the bottom vanilla cake layer:
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cubed * see notes
2 large eggs, at room temperature
2/3 cup milk, at room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For the center apple layer:
2 cups finely diced apples about 4 medium sized apples
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the crumb topping:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
4 to 6 tablespoons cool water
Instructions:
Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and dust with flour (or line with parchment paper). Set aside. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk to combine. Divide the dry ingredients in half and set aside one half for later (about 1 and 3/4 cups for each portion).
Make the cake layer: In a large bowl, combine half of your dry ingredients (about 1 and 3/4 cups) and the butter. Cut the butter into the dry ingredients until your get a mixture that resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Whisk together until the batter just comes together. Take care not to over mix! Some lumps are fine. Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish. Spread into an even layer, and set aside.
Make the apple layer: In a medium bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir together until the apples are fully coated in the sugar and cinnamon. Evenly sprinkle the apples over the cake layer. Set aside.
Make the crumb topping: In a large bowl, combine the remaining half (1 and 3/4 cups) of the dry ingredients and an additional 1/2 cup of flour. Whisk to combine.
Add in the other stick of butter. Again, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add 4 tablespoons of water and mix. You should be left with a crumbly mixture that sticks together when pinched. If it's too dry, work in more water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the right texture.
Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apple layer. Bake the cake in the center of a preheated 350°F oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown on top and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool slightly before slicing.

???? ???? ???? Baking (um, attempting) A Dutch Apple Pie From SCRATCH - Lekker Appeltaart - Jovie's Home
Hi, welcome to Jovie's Home!
????What you'll need:
1 medium egg
1 lemon (washed)
400 g self-rising flour
250 g white caster sugar
1 pinch of salt
250 g unsalted butter (cold)
8 Goudreinette apples (or another fresh and sour apple)
2 tsp cinnamon
150 g almond paste (300 g packet)
2 tbsp apricot jam
Check out the recipe in Dutch here:
Here's an English translation if you wanna make it too!
1. Separate the egg and grate the yellow zest of the lemon. Put the flour, 200 g sugar and the salt in a bowl. Cut the butter through with 2 knives until a crumbly dough is formed. Add the egg white and lemon zest. Quickly knead into a dough ball with cool hands. Press flat, pack in cling film and put in the fridge for 1 hour.
2. Preheat the oven to 175 ° C. Grease the spring form. Dust the work surface, the rolling pin and the dough ball with flour and roll ⅔ of the dough to a slice of 1 cm thick. This will cover the bottom and then the edges of the mold. First cut out a circle with the springform and place
it on the bottom of the mold. Cover the edges with the remainder of the rolled out dough.
3. Peel the apples, cut into quarters and remove the core. Cut the quarters into pieces and put in a bowl. Mix the cinnamon and the rest of the sugar into the apple. Mix half of the egg yolk into the almond paste and spread over the bottom. Spoon the apples on it.
4. Roll the retained dough into a square piece. Cut into 2 cm wide strips (*or little circles like I did) and place in a diamond pattern on the filling. Brush with the rest of the egg yolk. Bake the cake a little below the center of the oven for about 1 hour until golden brown and done.
5. Brush the top of the cake directly from the oven with the jam. Allow to cool in the form.

SIMPLE & EASY CAKE .: GERMAN APPLE CRUMBLE CAKE
Hello Everybody
Todays video is a impronto baking recipe of MY GERMAN *APPLE CRUMBLE CAKE . I cut down the amount of flour for the pastry and yet retain the structure and improve the taste. You will see in my recipe I am using more Almond Meal/Flour instead. It improves the taste of the cake.
Remember it is always difficult for the first time baking a foreign cake but you will find it easier after the first try. This is a delicious cake not to be missed.!!HOCHIAK !!
So this is how I make MY GERMAN APPLE CRUMBLE CAKE.
SO LETS START BAKING!!
*There are 25 types of apples in German. Each for a different purpose. The common seen in german Supermarkt are Jonagold, Elstar, Janagored, Braeburn n Granny Smith too
my favorite are Jonagold and Braeburn????
ENJOY BAKING!!!

………………..
1) Take a Cake mould size 26cm in diameter, grease and dust with breadcrumbs and set aside.
2)Preheat oven at 170C/175C top and bottom heat
3) Lets prepare the cake base pastry.
In a mixing bowl add
150gm Flour
150gm Almound Meal/Flour
120gm soft Butter or room temperature Butter
100gm Sugar
1 Egg
Softly mix all the ingredients with your fingers into crumbles and pour the crumbles into the cake form. Distribute it evenly in the form. Using your finger tips press the crumble to the rim of the form to a height of 2 finger sections or 4-5cm high ridge of the form. Then press down the crumbles at the base of the cake form evenly. Bake the cake at 170C for about 10 Minutes. But don't over bake the pastry. It is just to keep it in form for the filling.
Remove and set it aside to cool.
4)Soak 2 tbsp raisins in 2 tbsp of brandy/wine/any alcohol.
Set aside while you peel the apples
5)You need about 1000gms to 1200gms of Apples. Amount of Apples depend on how high you want your apple cake to be.
I use 1000gms JonaGold Apples.
Peel and decore the apples, cut it into cubes (1.5cm) and place the cut apples in a bowl of lemon water (to stop apples turning brown).
Now place the cut apples cubes into a pot and add
400ml natural press apple juice (you can use bottle apple juice with no additives)
50gm sugar
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp cinnamon powder
a dash of lemon juice
you can already add the 2 tbsp cornflour or potato flour
Stir and cook at medium heat till the apples are slightly cooked and the juice have to be thick not watery. Remove pot from the heat. Set aside to cool. Once apple mixture have cooled down then stir in the soaked raisins.
6)Now prepare the Crumbles, In a clean bowl add
150gm Almond Meal
115gms soft Butter
100gm Sugar
a pinch of salt
using the tip of your fingers slowly combine the ingredients to form crumbles. Set aside
7)Now assemble the apple crumble cake-
The Cake base should be cooled now, pour the cooled Apple Mixture into the cake base, spread it evenly and the distribute the crumbles over the top of the Apple Mixture evenly. Give a little press on the rim of cake to seal the pastry.
Place the cake not above medium level, Bake at 170C for 45 to 60 minutes . (My Oven took 50 minutes at slightly below medium level). Remove ready baked cake from Oven let is cool for at least 4 hours before serving, best is leave it overnight.
VOLA!! YOU HAVE MADE A GERMAN APPLE CRUMBLE CAKE!!
HAVE A GOOD TEATIME!!!
BON APPETITE!!
WELL, AFTER TASTING YOUR HARD WORK !!

For the glaze:
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons real maple syrup
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
Cream the butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment for 4 to 5 minutes, until light. Add the eggs 1 at a time, then add the vanilla and sour cream. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. With the mixer on low, add the flour mixture to the batter until just combined. Finish stirring with a spatula to be sure the batter is completely mixed.
For the streusel, place the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and butter in a bowl and pinch together with your fingers until it forms a crumble. Mix in the walnuts, if desired.
Spoon half the batter into the pan and spread it out with a knife. Sprinkle with 3/4 cup streusel. Spoon the rest of the batter in the pan, spread it out, and scatter the remaining streusel on top. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until a cake tester comes out clean.
Let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes. Carefully transfer the cake, streusel side up, onto a serving plate. Whisk the confectioners' sugar and maple syrup together, adding a few drops of water if necessary, to make the glaze runny. Drizzle as much as you like over the cake with a fork or spoon.

Ingredients:
For the crust:
2¾ cups (250g) Rolled oats
1¾ cups (220g) Flour
3/4 cup (150g) Brown sugar
1/2 cup (100g) White sugar
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 cup (230g) Butter, cold
For the filling:
5 apples
2 tablespoons (15g) flour
2-3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F (175C).
2. Make the crust: in a large bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add cold, cubed butter and mix with your hands until crumbly. Reserve two cups of the mixture in the fridge for a later use.
3. Press the remaining crust mixture into a baking pan (13*9 inch). Press firmly.
4. Bake the crust for 15 minutes, then set aside.
5. Make the filling: peel the apples, then thinly slice. Arrange apple slices in a row on the cooled crust.
6. Sprinkle the apples with flour, sugar and cinnamon. Then, crumble the reserved crust mixture.
7. Bake for 35 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
8. Allow to cool, then cut into bars.
Notes:
• In the video you can see I’ve arranged apple slices in one row, but after trying it, I think it’s not enough, try layering two layers or more (5 apples should be enough).

The Best Dutch Desserts To Try in AMSTERDAM
Dutch Apple Pie in Winkel 43 - 6.5€ - Six euro is a lot, but you will get a huge portion of Apple Pie with the greedy portion of cream. Absolutely no regrets. It’s good for sharing but don’t be afraid to go for one pie per person. You can’t stop eating it until the plate is clean.
Would you like to buy me a coffee?
Poffertjes - 3€ - The traditional poffertjes are with sugar and a big slice of butter. They were absolutely spectacular. I am always amazed when simple food tastes this good. You can add extra toppings for 50p each.
Stroopwafels - 1.5-4€ I wanted to try the original stroopwafels at the stall (Original Stroopwafels) in the Albert Cyupmarkt in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, the guy who makes the original stroopwafels was on holiday. Bummer. But good for him. He surely deserves his holidays ????Based on the reviews and photos on the internet I would still encourage you to go there even if I hadn’t the chance to try them.
I went to the second most recommended place, the van Wonderen Stroopwafels. Stroopwafels in there definitely look good on Instagram. As, usual, I think that all the fancy toppings with marshmallows and smarties look good, but they are absolutely not necessary and rather kill the original flavor of the Stroopwafel. I went for the best-seller, the Kletskop Stroopwafel with a typical Dutch cookie made of peanuts and caramel. And it was very good.
Tompouce - (price unknown, the box in the supermarket went for 3€, but I would expect the price for one slice in the better patisserie to be around that mark). Apparently, the best place where to try the tompouce is at the Patisserie Holtkamp. Just don’t go there on Sunday. Apparently, all bakers have their well-deserved rest on Sunday and the only Tompouce you can get is from the supermarket. Based on their website and reviews on the internet this place
looks amazing and I will definitely go there next time I will be in Amsterdam. And not only for tompouce.

Crumble Topping Recipe for ANY FRUIT PIE!
CRUMBLE TOPPING RECIPE // CRAZYFORCRUST.COM
- - - - CLICK DOWN FOR RECIPE - - - -
This recipe for crumble topping is the perfect crumble for any pie recipe. You can even make it for muffins or coffee cake!
INGREDIENTS
12 tablespoons unsalted butter
2/3 cup sugar (brown or white or a combination)
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
INSTRUCTIONS
Grate cold butter into a large bowl. Alternately, you can dice it small.
Add sugar: use all brown or all white or a combination to make 2/3 cup. Use whatever combination you like (I like using 1/3 cup each brown and white).
Add flour and then, using a pastry cutter, work the butter into the flour and sugar until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
Use crumble as recipe directs, on a fruit pie or on muffins or coffee cake. Bake as directed in recipe.
