There's something so festive and holiday-like about the smell of cinnamon and apples. Our slow-cooker apple pear butter (yes, that's right, I said slow-cooker) will surround you with those intoxicating scents all day long. The best part: You don't have to stand by the stove stirring for hours. Grate some apples and pears, toss them in the slow cooker with some cinnamon and sugar, set the heat, and go about your day! The recipe makes a few jars, so be sure to share with a friend or two!

8 cups pears cut up, 1/2 cup water... 1 cup sugar...1/4 cup brown sugar.. 1 t. Cinnamon. .1 t. Vanilla. ..1 t. Lemon juice....... email@example.com
Slow Cooker Pear or Apple Butter - Canning What You Grow
Holly shows how to make and can pear butter in the slow cooker. Same method can be used for making apple butter.
8 pounds whole apples or pears
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
Clean, peel, and roughly chop pears.
In batches, puree pears in a food processor or blender, transfer to slow cooker.
Mix in sugar with pear puree.
Add cinnamon sticks.
Turn slow cooker on low and let it sit for 6-24 hours, until desired consistency is reached. You can remove the lid for faster cooking.
Once pear butter is ready prepare jars, rings, lids and a hot water bath canner. Be sure to remove cinnamon sticks.
Once pear butter is almost to a boil fill pint jars leaving ¼ inch headspace. Process in half pints or pints for 10 minutes.
Recipe will yield approximately 4 half-pints but can be doubled.

Greetings! Last weekend, my neighbor brought me about ten pounds of pears in a grocery bag from his son's property. He said his wife knew that I would do something delicious with them. Well he was right! After making a great pear upside down cake and eating some out of hand, I decided to make some slow cooker pear butter and can it up.
This is super simple and super delicious. I did not end up adding any additional spices aside from the fresh ginger it just didn't need it! Of course you can adjust this to your own preference if you like a bit more spice, but this is so delicious you might not want too!

1/4 CUP ORANGE JUICE WITH HEAVY PULP(I FILTER FOR MORE PULP)

SUGAR 1 1/2 CUPS (ALMOST TO SWEET WITH THE APPLES)
2 TSP CINNAMON ( I LIKE 2 TBS MYSELF)

It was so good it was gone in a heart beat.

I love pear butter. While I don't make it all the time, it is a nice change from grape jelly. We put this on hot biscuits, enjoy!

- 2 pears
- 1 apple
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 table spoon maple syrup
- 1 1/2 cup oats
- 1 table spoon stevia
- 1 spoonful wholegrain flour
- 1 spoonful dairy freebutter spread (or standard butter)

It's fall and the harvest of apples and pears is in full gear! What better to make then, than apple butter and pear honey? Yum! You can can the jars up or keep them in your fridge. It's up to you how you'd like to store your sweet goodies, but in the video I show you how to safely process them.
Ingredients for apple butter-
6 lbs apples
1 tblsp lemon juice
1 cup cider or water
1.5 tblsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
4 cups brown sugar
Pear Honey ingredients-
8 Bosc pears
4 cups white sugar
1 20 oz can crushed pineapple
juice of one lemon

Apple, Pear, and Strawberry pie
With the holiday season upon us, this is the perfect recipe to try for your holiday party! It is relatively easy to make and makes a really beautiful presentation. Don't let the lattice top scare you off; it is actually really easy to do!
Ingredients: The filling
1# Each sliced apples, pears, and strawberries
1/4 Cup All purpose flour
1 Tbsp. Cornstarch
1 Lemon juiced
Pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg
1 Cup Sugar
Pinch of salt
1. In a large bowl, combine the fruit with 1/2 the sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir till thoroughly combined. Allow to sit for at least a half hour.
2. Strain the liquid that forms and reserve.
3. Over medium heat, reduce the strained liquid until it becomes very syrupy. About 5 minutes.
4. Return the syrup to the fruit mixture and add the remaining ingredients. Stir till combined.
Ingredients: Pie crust
(Multiply this recipe by 2 but make separately)
1 1/3 Cup All purpose flour
5 Tbsp. Chilled water
4 Oz. Cubed chilled unsalted butter
Pinch of salt and sugar
1. In a large bowl, add all ingredients minus the water.
2. With a fork, incorporate the butter into the flour by pressing the butter into the flour. Do this until the mixture becomes crumbly. It takes some elbow grease so be patient
3.Add the water and mix till the dough is formed.
4. With the palm of your hand knead the dough briefly. Not too much though!
5. Wrap the dough with cellophane and chill for at least 20 minutes.
6. Flour a dry clean surface. Flour a rolling pin.
7. Starting from the center, roll the dough out until it is about 1 inch larger than your pie dish.
1. Line the pan with the dough.
2. Add the fruit mixture and even it out so it is level.
3. Prepare the lattice top. I can't describe it in words so you have to watch the video.
4. Brush the top of the pie with an egg wash and sprinkle additional sugar on top.
5. Place the pie on a lined baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 1-1/2 hours. It will be golden brown and bubbly when done.
6. Allow to cool for at least an hour and serve.

Yes, you can leave out the pears, just replace with more apple.
I bought the crust shields at a thrift store, they most likely are available at kitchen specialty stores. You can make your own with aluminum foil. Here is website that shows you how:

Pastry fo a single 9 crust pie
3 cups peeled and sliced cooking apples (about 2 large) I used Gala apples because that's what in the house because those are Max's favourite.
3 cups peeled and sliced pears (I used Bartlett pears)
3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
3/4 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup all purpose flour
3 tbsp packed brown sugar
2 tbsp finely chopped crystallized ginger
1/3 cup butter, cut into pieces
On a floured surface roll out dough and line a 9 deep dish pie plate.
Place apples, pears and lemon juice in a large bowl. Sprinkle with sugar, flour, ginger and cinnamon and toss together. Spoon filling and any juices into pie shell packing gently.
For crumble, combine oats, flour, sugar and ginger in large bowl. Cut in the butter with pastry cutter or two butter knives until mixture clumps together. Sprinkle over fruit.
Bake at 450F for 15 minutes and then lower temperature to 375F for an additional 40-50 minutes or until juices are bubbling, fruit is tender and topping is browned.

I had a video up a few years ago on how to make pie crust but there was music in it so i had to remove it. Perhaps I will make one in the future.
Yes, it has lard in it. In my opinion there is no better pastry for pies than a lard pastry.
5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 lb lard
1 eggs, stirred slightly
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 cup cold water
Stir the flour and salt together.
Cut in the lard with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the shortening is in pea size pieces.
In a measuring cup, combine the egg and vinegar.
Add enough cold water to make one cup.
Stir the liquid into the flour mixture, adding just enough to make the dough cling together.
Stir the water in with a wooden spoon until mixed thoroughly, then gather the dough into a ball, and separate into 6 portions. This makes enough for 3 double crust pies.
Cover and refrigerate for one hour, you can chill ovenight, covered, providing you leave it at room temp for 15 mins before rolling.
Lightly flour surface and roll into circles, then pat the dough into pie pans, following pie recipes. Be careful not to stretch the dough.
This is also a good dough for tarts, but you will want to roll the dough a little thicker than you would for pies.
