Apple Butter Scones | The Tastemakers-Jen Phanomrat
These buttery scones are flavored with apple butter and kissed with a warming maple glaze.
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp salt
¼ cup butter, cubed and chilled
1 tbsp light brown sugar
2 eggs, at room temperature
½ cup + 2 tbsp buttermilk
¼ cup apple butter
1 tbsp cinnamon + sugar mix, for the top
For the glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
8 tbsp pure maple syrup
4 tbsp butter, melted
1-2 tbsp milk
1.) Preheat oven to 425°F. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
2.) In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add one egg at a time and mix. Then add buttermilk and apple butter. Mix well. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet, and mix just until combined.
3.) Pour mixture onto a floured surface. Use your hands or a roller to form a disk. Cut into slices, like triangles, and place on a parchment-lined baking tray. Brush the tops with buttermilk and sprinkle cinnamon sugar.
4.) Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until crusty and golden brown. Meanwhile, make the glaze by combining all ingredients in a bowl.
5.) Remove scones from oven and place on a wire rack. Allow to cool for about 5 minutes, before adding the glaze on top.

VEGAN APPLE CINNAMON SCONES (NO OIL, LOW FAT) | Vegan Richa Recipes
Vegan Apple Cinnamon Scones! NoAdded refined Oil and No Coconut milk! Lower fat delicious Apple Pie Scones.
These Spiced Cinnamony Apple Scones are just perfect to use the apple bounty. They are also low-fat with no added oil and no full fat coconut milk! And yes, they are still crisp and biscuity!!
I usually use full fat coconut milk for scones when making the without oil/butter and that works out really well. It is not low fat however, so I decided to experiment with other options. The 2 things tot make a good low fat scone are 1. do all possible things to keep the moisture from baking out, which can result in dry scones, 2. Chilling at several points for the biscuit like texture rather than cake or muffin texture.
In these scones, I use almond milk and apple sauce as the wet ingredients, which are frozen until some portions of the mix freezes. This mix is used to make the scone dough. The thinly sliced apples are tossed in maple syrup to keep a barrier between the apple moisture and the scone dough. The dough is topped with a liberal dusting of cinnamon and sugar. This helps seal in some of the moisture during baking. The shaped scones are chilled again before baking for a nice crisp crumb.
Substitution options are in the notes and in the post.

Crumbly, rustic, simple fruit scones served with a dollop of clotted cream and strawberry jam. So wonderfully British, so delicious, the taste of Summer! This is a paid ad.
NB. The edit gremlins are back and somewhere along the lines the 2 eggs that should have been added with the milk are missing!! Or you can add 150ml of milk if you don't want to add eggs. Check out full recipe here.
Top tip - make an extra big batch and freeze the cut out dough. Then whenever you’re feeling peckish pop in the oven and cook until golden and warm.

Recipe (a list of substitutions are at the end of the recipe)
Makes about 16 tea (small) scones
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake Time: 18 minutes
3 cups (450 g) all-purpose flour
¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
4 tsp (12 g) baking powder
½ tsp (2.5 g) salt
2 tsp (10 mL) finely grated citrus zest (lemon, lime or orange)
¾ cup (175 g) cold butter, cut into pieces
¾ cup (175 mL) cold milk (1% or 2%)
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk (reserve the white for brushing the scones)
½ cup (125 mL) add-ins (**see note below)
cinnamon sugar for sprinkling
1. Preheat the oven to 375 °F (190 °C) and line 1-2 baking trays with parchment paper.
2. Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add the grated citrus zest and mix in. Add the butter and cut this in using a pastry cutter, two butter knives or your fingertips, until no large pieces are visible and the mixture is a rough, crumbly texture. Use your hands to rub the mixture between your palms to flatten any butter pieces – this helps to make the scones flaky.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg and egg yolk together. Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture and add the milk all at once. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to mix everything together just until it starts to come together but it is still rough and crumbly. Turn everything out onto a clean surface and sprinkle the add-ins overtop. Use your hands to bring the dough together, and to flatten and fold the dough over a few times – this works the currants into the dough and helps build layers to promote flakiness.
4. Flatten the dough with your hands, to just under an inch (2.5 cm) thick and use a 2 ½-inch (7.5 cm) round cutter to cut out scones. Arrange these on the baking tray, leaving 2 inches (5 cm) between them. Brush the tops of the scones with the egg white and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake the scones for about 18 minutes, until golden brown on the bottom and lightly browned on top. Cool the scones on a rack
The scones are best enjoyed the day they are baked.
Dried cranberries, blueberries, cherries or other chopped dried fruit
Chocolate Chips (white, milk or dark)
Any combination of the above you might like, to total of ½ cup (125 mL)
Or, for savoury:
1 cup (110g) grated cheese (skip the cinnamon sugar)
1 Tbsp chopped chives, green onions, rosemary or basil
For all-purpose flour:
whole wheat flour, gluten-free flour blend, bread flour
Brown sugar, coconut palm sugar
Maple syrup or honey (reduce milk to ½ cup/125 mL)
For baking powder:
1 ½ tsp baking soda + 1 Tbsp lemon juice added with milk
½ tsp instant yeast (let scone dough sit in fridge overnight)
¼ cup (60 mL) sourdough discard (reduce milk by ¼ cup/60 mL)
Salted butter (omit salt)
Virgin coconut oil, margarine (vegan if necessary, not soft, omit salt)
Oat, almond, soy or rice milk
Evaporated milk, tinned coconut milk
In a pinch, juice, cold tea or water
For egg & yolk:
Stir 2 Tbsp ground flaxseed into 3 Tbsp water and let sit 1 minute
90 g silken tofu, well-beaten
6 Tbsp (90 mL) additional milk

Caramel Apple Scones Recipe | Apple Scones Recipe
Caramel Apple Scones Recipe | Apple Scones Recipe
Caramel apples aren’t a big deal in my house for a few very-good-reasons. Personally, I can’t seem to get behind the idea that biting into a round and sticky surface is somehow going to work out all right.
1 tablespoon salted butter
1 large Gala or Granny Smith apple, peeled and chopped finely
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated white sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold salted butter, cut into chunks
1 cup Greek vanilla yogurt (choose a creamy variety- nonfat is fine)
4 tablespoons salted butter
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 to 3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with a Silpat mat or parchment paper.
Prepare the apples: Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the apples- stir and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until apples are softened. Stir in the cinnamon and set the apples aside to cool (or to speed up the cooling process, remove them from the heated pan and into a bowl).
Prepare the scone dough: In the bowl of a mixer, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Add the butter and mix again until coarse crumbs form (you can also do this step in a food processor). Stir in the yogurt and apples until the dough comes together (it will be dry so you may need to use your hands eventually). Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and form roughly a 14 x 4-inch flattened log. Use a sharp knife to cut triangle-shaped scones (11 or 12). Gently pull the triangles apart and set them on your prepared baking sheet in the same rectangular shape, leaving about 1/2-inch between scones. When they bake, they'll have some room to spread and crowd into each other.
Bake the scones: Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until they are cooked through and no longer doughy in the middle. Let the scones cool for a few minutes, then gently coax them apart with a knife and move them to a rack over a baking sheet.
Ice the scones: In a small saucepan, heat butter until melted. Stir in brown sugar and milk. Cook over medium-low heat for 1 minute. Transfer to a mixing bowl and cool the mixture slightly. Stir in the vanilla and 1/2 cup powdered sugar. Beat with an electric mixer until well blended. If necessary, add up to 1/4 cup more powdered sugar for desired consistency. Drizzle icing over warm scones.
These scones are best eaten the day they're made, but they're perfectly good eaten the next day too (keep them in a covered container).
If you'd like to make these the night before, that's totally okay- keep them in a covered container. But add the icing in the morning, just before serving.
For creamy Greek yogurt, I like to use Oikos or Voskos.

The BEST Scone Recipe
This delicious, classic scone recipe can be made with one bowl and two hands in just a few minutes. The have a crisp outer layer, are soft and tender inside, and go perfectly with clotted cream and jam! If you can clear up the pronunciation in the comments I would be so appreciative!
Scones are traditionally served with tea and are best when slathered in clotted cream and touched with jam. Unsurprisingly, it’s important to not overwork the dough and never roll it too thin.
Like a biscuit they should fluff up and rise during baking and to do that they need to start off thick. I did not adorn my scones/biscuits with dried fruit or nuts but if you are so inclined just mix them in at the very end.

If you love cinnamon, you will love this recipe. This spread is amazing on warm rolls for dinner, on toast, pancakes and anything else you butter on. I haven't tried it on a baked potato but hey, why not?
I got the idea from a restaurant my family went to recently and they served this butter with some warm dinner rolls. Everyone loved it.
So I figured, how hard can it be? So this is what I came up with and I thinks it's amazing. Maybe even better than theirs.
Here is the recipe:
Apple Cinnamon Recipe
1 cube of butter (1/2 cup) softened (at room temperature)
5 tsp. unsweetened apple sauce
2 tsp. brown sugar, firmly packed
2 tsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
Place the butter in a mixing bowl and mix until whipped about 1 minute. Then add the applesauce, brown sugar, sugar, and cinnamon and mix until well incorporated. Scrape down the bowl a couple of times so that the sugars get well mixed in ( a good minute or two of mixing).
Cover and refrigerate.

BETH'S SCONE RECIPES
Each Recipe Makes 8 scones
2 cups flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp + 1 tsp baking powder
10 tbsp unsalted butter, very cold and diced into small cubes
½ cup of heavy cream
1 tbsp vanilla
FOR RAISIN SCONES:
Add ¼ cup black raisins and ¼ cup golden raisins
1 whole egg
SERVE WITH: Twinings Apple Spiced Chai Tea
Preheat oven to 400F.
In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
Then work the butter cubes into the flour with your hands until a coarse meal develops. Then toss in the raisins and mix gently with your hands to combine.
In a separate small bowl add the heavy cream, eggs and vanilla and whisk with a fork until combined.
Create a small well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour the cream mixture into the well, and stir with a fork until combined, and then change to a large wooden spoon.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Form into a disk, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 mins, or pop in the freezer for 10 mins.
Once chilled, roll the dough out to ½ “ thickness. Cut out scones with a 2” round biscuit cutter and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
Then whisk 1 whole egg in a small bowl, then with a pastry brush lightly glaze the tops of the scones with the egg wash.
TIP: To assure your scones retain their shape after they are baked pop your tray into your fridge for 15 mins before baking. This will re-chill the dough and allow them to bake up in a more uniform fashion.
Bake for 10-12 mins until risen and golden brown. Serve with butter and jam alongside your favorite tea!
FOR CRANBERRY ORANGE SCONES:
Replace raisins with ½ cup of Cranberries
Add 2 tbsp orange zest with the cranberries
Glaze with heavy cream and turbinado sugar
SERVE WITH: Twinings Orange & Cinnamon Spice Tea
To form triangle scones:
Roll dough into a square, ½” thick. Cut in half vertically, then horizontally. Then cut each little square diagonally to create smaller triangles.
Transfer to a parchment lined cookie sheet. Glaze with heavy cream and sprinkle with the turbinado sugar.
Add 3 oz of chopped bittersweet chocolate at the coarse meal stage. Mix to combine and proceed as directed for basic scone recipe.
SERVE WITH: Twinings Pure Peppermint Tea
